Legislators discuss higher education

  Advances in distance education and "research rock stars" are reasons USU is deserving of continued funding, university President Stan Albrecht said in a presentation at the Utah Capitol on Monday.  "I'd like to just emphasize that we are yours," said USU President Stan Albrecht said to legislators on the Higher Education Appropriations Subcommittee. Utah State women's basketball spears Spartan women

  Senior Ashlee Brown recorded a double-double with 30 points and 14 rebounds as the Utah State women's basketball team pulled off a come-from-behind win against San Jose State 78-73 Thursday. "(Ashlee) led our team physically and emotionally," said head coach Raegan Pebley. Full story

ASUSU votes to dissolve grad senate

  The ASUSU Executive Council voted to disband the Graduate Student Senate and briefly discussed the possibility of an on-campus car rental agency at its meeting Tuesday, Jan. 31. Currently, graduate students are represented in a legislative body separate from their undergraduate counterparts. Full story

Aggie Men lose to Wolf Pack 53-52 in final seconds for second loss to Nevada this season

  Sophomore guard Deonte Burton scored 13 points, but it was an off-balance 3-pointer with 11 seconds left that gave Nevada a 53-52 win at the Lawlor Events Center on Thursday. The Aggies (12-11, 4-4 WAC) have suffered several close losses this season — especially on the road — and this one might have stung the most. Full story

  Dale ZoBell took a bite out of a hot liver, freshly removed from the belly of a gazelle in Mongolia. He witnessed an elephant run past him at 20 mph, while he stood outside his door in Nepal. He has slept through a 6.668 earthquake, walked on the white beaches in Australia and climbed the volcano Mount Merapi in Indonesia, three days before it erupted. Full story

Alumni illustrate success of fine arts program

  Lily Toy Hong decided she wanted to be a children's book illustrator in the second grade. "I didn't dare tell anyone," she said. "At the time, it seemed really impossible." So after graduation, rather than pursue a career as an illustrator, she moved to Hawaii, and later worked on a degree in commercial art at Utah Technical College. Full story
